The Haunting Lessons is the story of a girl by the name of Tamara and how she goes from being small town USA to big city demon hunter. It starts with the loss of her beloved boyfriend whose ghost she can suddenly see. When she freaks out, her mom has her committed. After narrowly escaping being raped by one of the doctors, she is set free with a sizeable monetary settlement to sustain her for awhile so she heads to NYC to try and escape the ghost of her boyfriend. From there, things descend ever further into a madness from which there is no escape. There is a war brewing unbeknownst to the majority of the populace and she finds herself smack dab in the middle of it. Can she become a strong enough force to stave off the darkness?
I would first like to state that I received this free through NetGalley for an honest review. This book, although written almost like a first person diary, was actually pretty good. We get to watch Tam grow into a strong young woman, ready to take on whatever life throws at her. Several times I found myself chuckling out loud at some of the little quips in the story. All in all, this was a decent paranormal fiction and I am curious to see what happens in the following two books of the series.
