Starving Hearts

Starving Hearts (Triangular Trade Trilogy, #1)Starving Hearts by Janine Mendenhall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Starving Hearts is an adventurous and inspirational historical romance that takes the reader through various parts of England, Africa, and the Americas circa the 1790’s. We get to see the main character, Annette, saved from a fate worse than death by a mysterious stranger. Enter the handsome pastor, Peter Adsley, whom Annette feels drawn to from the start. But danger stalks the pair through the fancy balls and miscellaneous celebrations, threatening to keep them apart. Their strength of will and their faith will be sorely tested. Will the two ever manage to come together? Or does Providence have other plans for them?

I would first like to state that I received this book free through a giveaway via Goodreads. That being said, I really enjoyed this book. The story was well written and full of intrigue. The chemistry between the two main protagonists was spot-on and felt genuine. The character of Annette was strong, opinionated, and well educated (I do love a strong heroine). As for our hero, Peter, he was a perfect gentleman to the end – brave, cunning, moral, and swoon-worthy. This was the best clean-yet-wholesome romance I have read in a long time. I think we can expect good things from Mrs. Mendenhall.
