Her Highland Rogue is a historical romance taking place in 16th century Scotland. The heroine is a young lady by the name of Aileana. Rescued by the clan MacRae at an early age, she has no memories of her life before. She grew up as a common serving girl in the laird’s household but has unfortunately come under the eye of the captain of the guard. After fighting off his unwanted advances, Aileana flees to the mountains. While there she meets a mysterious woman living in a cave who shelters her. Imagine her surprise when the laird’s son shows up to rescue her and bring her home. Sparks fly between the two, but her previous ‘suitor’ refuses to back down. Danger lurks in the shadows and it seems the cards are stacked against them. Can their burgeoning affection weather the storm?
I would first like to state that I received this free through NetGalley for an honest review. This was a charming story albeit somewhat short. The character of Aileana, I felt came up lacking, however. She was too even tempered to be believable. Where’s the fire of her Scottish blood? As for the plot, it was a bit on the prosaic side and far too predictable for my taste. That being said, I did like the tale. It was a cute and quick summer read.
