Stifled is a modern day fantasy action/adventure written in first person and is the second book in the Summoned series. Taking place some three months after where the first novel left off, we get to see the main character, Dimitri, falling back on old habits. Both he and Syd are having trouble finding their way and keep butting heads. As the danger mounts, they seem to be getting more and more out of sync. Hired goons and snipers lurk around every corner. As they try to discover who is hunting them, they realize they may have bitten off more than they can chew. When all is said and done, will their insane plan and their relationship fall apart?
I would first like to state that I received this free through NetGalley for an honest review. This book had an insane amount of action but seemed a bit too predictable at times and I found my attention wandering from the story at intervals. That being said, I love how finally the relationship between the two protagonists felt real in its complexity and turmoil. It didn’t seem as forced as in the first book. While I preferred the plot in the preceding tale, this one was quite good in its own right. It was quite the rollercoaster ride of suspense and ‘face-palming’ incidents. I must say that I do love Dimitri’s wry sense of humor – he can be quite droll at times, particularly his inner monologue, and I found myself chuckling out loud a few times. I am definitely looking forward to the next in the series.
