Pieces (Patchworks, #1)Pieces by T. Aleo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pieces is a paranormal romance novel geared toward new adults. The main character, Rebekah, is a descendent of the infamous Dr. Frankenstein. But unlike the rest of her family, she is not immortal and is treated as her father’s guinea pig. Being among vampires, shifters, witches, and wolves, her family has her on lockdown until they can discover a ‘cure’ to her human condition. She is essentially a prisoner in a gilded cage, only allowed to be at home or at work in her family’s nightclub for the paranormal world – but never without a guardian. When Killian, a smoking hot vampire starts working at the club, sparks fly. But not all is as it seems, he is harboring a secret that could destroy them both. In the end, Rebekah must choose to either obey her overbearing family or to follow her heart….

I would first like to state that I received this free through NetGalley for an honest review. I must admit that after reading several reviews on this book, I was quite intrigued. While the story took place in basically the same environs throughout, it was by no means dull. The tale was full of action, intrigue, passion, and heartache. The characters were full of depth, the plot was rife with danger and suspicion, and the author drew true empathy from the reader towards the main character. While this had a satisfying ending, I am anxious for the sequel as this was a spectacular read and I can’t wait to see more of our heroine and her champion.
