Firebolt is a fantasy adventure geared toward young adults and is the first book of the Dragonian series. The main character, Elena, finds out the hard way that dragon-shifters are all too real when a rogue group attacks her and her father. When she awakens she finds out her father is dead and she has been brought to a land where dragons and magic are the norm. It turns out that she is a dragonian, a human born to essentially control and ride a dragon, and is soon enrolled in the school there for both her kind and young dragon-shifters. But danger lurks in the halls of the school, waiting for the opportunity to strike. Will Elena and her new companions escape unscathed…?
I would first like to state that I received this through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This was actually a fun read with lots of action, adventure, and just a little romance thrown in for good measure. It was kind of like Harry Potter meets Eragon. The characters were well-developed, the pace steady, and the foreshadowing quite excellent. It was so good in fact, that I zipped through the whole thing in just a couple of hours and am looking forward to the next in the series. I would highly recommend this story to fans of the genre.
