Wicked Intentions

Wicked Intentions (Maiden Lane, #1)Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wicked Intentions is an historical romance taking place in London. The main character, Temperence, runs a foundling home for orphans in a rough section of the city along with her brother. On night as she is hurrying back to the home with a sick babe she stumbles across the mysterious and infamous Lord Caire. After following her home, Caire offers her a proposition. With the home on the verge of closing due to lack of funds, she is desperate. They come to an understanding and he agrees to help her find a patron and give her money for immediate needs if she will help him investigate the brutal murder of his mistress. As they speak to people trying to find information, the danger rises as the killer seems to be aware of their investigation. More victims pop up with the same M.O. making it all the more imperative to find the culprit. As they get closer to the answers they seek, the danger mounts. Will they be able to find the murderer before one of them or someone they care about becomes the next victim?

I would first like to state that I received this through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This was a very suspenseful but romantic read. The characters are well-developed and anything but perfect which makes them seem much more real in my opinion and both the hero and the heroine are tortured by certain aspects of the past. The tension between them is so thick you could cut it with a knife. The romance was smoking hot, the pace steady, and the plot full of surprises. I really enjoyed this novel and I think that other fans of the genre would as well.
